Research & Innovation

As part of my MA in Digital Innovation in Journalism, I explored how information systems function and how their design impacts public engagement.

Thesis Work

My thesis examined the relationship between information overload, mental health, and democratic participation. It analyzed how the structure of digital news ecosystems contributes to disengagement and explored the role of artificial intelligence in reshaping that dynamic.

From this research, I developed a news chatbot prototype designed to demonstrate a less extractive model of information delivery. The tool addresses the underlying causes of news avoidance by prioritizing user agency, context, and care in the consumption process.

What we lose when truth is challenged? This piece examines how broken information ecosystems erode our shared reality, leading to polarization, apathy, and the destabilization of democratic institutions.

The Care Calculator

Can technology treat being informed as something other than a transaction? This essay explores whether we can design AI tools that prioritize user agency and care, rather than reinforcing the extractive models of modern news.
